CrossCode transported me years back and it's been a while since I've played some of these. I can't remember if they were puzzles for this one though, sorry. The one game that's definitely an odd one but CrossCode reminds me of is The Twisted Tales of Spike McFang because it's a fairly light-hearted companion style adventure through biomes thing. I must have done three or four laps around the area just trying to figure out which ledges went where, and although I don't have need of the Thief's Band right now, the sheer fact that I did. And if you don't, you just keep moving, and that's okay. Those games I highly suspect influenced the devs a bit even though I don't know for sure. They lay out the puzzle, and they know that if you really want the reward, you'll figure it out. There's also Soul Blazer/Illusion of Gaia/Terranigma which don't have as many puzzles IIRC (IoG may have the most). Alundra is a very good one but the combat isn't as snappy or satisfying IMO but everything else about that game is A+.

There's also obviously the Zelda games and Alundra which is in the same vein as those. It's complicated, but start with 2 if you go with Lufia since it's the first one chronologically. They have great dungeon puzzles but they're turn-based JRPGs but there's no random encounters if that helps. They all lack one thing or the other and I've been mourning Crosscode since I finished it.īut while playing Crosscode I did think of:
